Product Description
Three Beacons on Yonah: Three In-Depth Commentaries with a Comparative Analysis Abarbenel, Alshich and Malbim.

Three Beacons of Yonah, three in-depth commentaries with a comparative analysis by Rabbi Aaron Werner (published by the author,52 Zefaniah, Jerusalem; 1979; $6.95). This volume is the first of a projected new series, the Three Beacon Series which aims to publish the books of the Tanach together with three in-depth commentaries, chosen for the distinctive light that each throws on the text (where necessary, Rabbi Werner provides brief comments to explain points of contrast between the three commentators). For Jonah, Abarbanel, Alshich and Malbim are included, prefaced by introductory essays on Teshuva and Prophecy; also, Rabbi Werner includes an allegorical interpretation of the Sefer (primarily based on the Yilna Gaon), again with an introductory essay to smoothe the reader's path. The language of the translation and essays is fluid, the graphic presentation excellent, and there is even a map provided for the benefit of the reader. As Rabbi Werner points out, there is great value in providing for the reader the complete text of the classical commentaries rather than only brief summaries of their ideas; it is to be hoped that he will be able to carry his ambitious project to completion.
